2011 Tavola Rosso Reviewed by Great Northwest Wine

Nov 03, 2014

Great Northwest Wine has reviewed Maryhill Winery 2011 Tavola Rosso and has rated it Outstanding!

Richard Batchelor’s previous vintage of this Super Tuscan-style blend merited gold medals at both Finger Lakes and the Indy international wine competitions, and this also seems golden. He dialed up Merlot (40%) with Sangiovese (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon, which he poured in an oak program of 50 percent new French barrels for 20 months. That accounts for heady aromas of brown sugar, Chukar Cherry, plum and mocha with black pepper spice and a whiff of alder smoke. Bright acidity and rich red fruit highlight the entry as Chelan cherry and ripe strawberry flavors set the mood. Mouthfilling sandy tannins merely add to the length and will play deliciously with barbecued short ribs, herb-roasted chicken, burgers with blue cheese or lasagne. Call the winery directly because this typically is limited to the Leutholds’ wine club.
