Great Northwest Wine has reviewed Maryhill Winery 2013 Viognier and has rated it Excellent!
One of the Pacific Northwest’s largest offerings of Viognier continues to be one of the most balanced as it touches on fruit, a bit of creaminess and bright acidity. The blend of nearby Gunkel Vineyard (57%), along with Tudor Hill (28%) in the Yakima Valley and McKinley Springs in the Horse Heaven Hills, was partially fermented on French oak staves, allowing for aromas of kiwi fruit, apricot, Lemonhead candy, orange oil and cotton candy. There’s a touch of oilyness on the entry to the palate, which is followed by fresh-cut pineapple, Mandarin orange segments and apricot glacéed. Suggested pairing include Asparagus and Rice Pilaf, barbecued shrimp and spicy chicken.
