Sourced from a selection of award-winning vineyards in Washington State’s Columbia Valley AVA.
Throughout harvest, Winemaker Richard Batchelor worked closely with local growers and visited each vineyard to taste for maturity and ripeness to determine the precise moment to pick the fruit. Grapes were hand-harvested during the cool hours of the morning to preserve bright fruit notes. Each lot underwent a five day pre-fermentation cold maceration for color and fruit extraction then allowed to warm up to allow the native yeast fermentation to begin, typically taking 12-14 days. Once dry; a further five days of skin contact was performed before draining overnight for maximum free run yield. No press fraction was added to the wine. At this point, the young wines were transferred to oak barrels to undergo the secondary fermentation with native bacteria, yielding unique character only seen when in contact with wood, enhancing the wine’s richness and integration of the barrel. Each of the vineyard sites contributed unique notes which were then blended for style and balance.
