With what, at times, could be described as a buttery, breathless roar over a darkly warm guitar, singer-songwriter Katelyn Convery’s achingly soothing tones tap into deeper histories, that it should come as no surprise to hear of her worldly pursuits, from busking solo-acoustic in Barcelona to recording an unreleased electronic-house album in South Africa. Born and raised in Oregon, any wandering ear might call her one of Portland’s best kept secrets, her truest home residing in the very songs she writes, with a timeless pain lurking beneath a calm surface, swimming in a sound reminiscent of Morissette, Carlisle, McCartney, and Cobain all wrapped into one. “A voice to remember,” as Portland Notes wrote of her debut album “Unarmed” released in 2015, Katelyn Convery is raw pop and pure grunge.
